NTPS students are being graded on obtaining, evaluating, an communicating information.  For this SEP students must " read and evaluate text to obtain scientific information."  This article shares how a 2nd grade teacher and the schools reading specialist collaborated to develop a lesson that addressed this SEP, the content being addressed in the classroom as well as built on skills needed in ELA.  What a great way to build on ELA skills, library research practices and the science content being taught in the classroom.

NTPS first grade students explore sound in their fourth quarter STEMscope "Sound".  During this scope, students are asked to conduct investigations that provide evidence that vibrating materials can make sound and that sound can vibrate  materials.  This article, Waves Sound Great,  has lesson plans that span several days. Day 4 is centered around creating different types of drums using information gathered from previous lesson where students explored other musical instruments. Check out this article for information on how you could support the first grade Physical Science standard in your classroom.
